I decided to make my project on the expressions kids have on their faces. I went around many places taking pictures of many children. This was a great expirence for me since it showed me how many photographers have to run after kids to be able to take beautiful pictures.

MOMA - Jeff Wall

The Flooded Grave - Jeff Wall - A Sudden Gust of Wind (after Hokusai) Jeff Wall

The two works that are being compared are The Flooded Grave and A Sudden Gust of Wind. The Flooded Grave was taken on 1998, in two different cementaries. The photograph was completed in two years. I chose the second picture because both pictures look alike. The structure of the picture is very similar to the first picture.
The Flooded Grave was characterized by Jeff Wall as a "moment in a cementary". It is described as the person standing before the flooded hole and looking into it, the person for one reason or another thinks of it as the oceans bottom. In the photograph we see a cementary towards the back, however in one of the squares we see a grave filled with water. Next to it we see a pill of dirt, just as a grave. The picture was taken during the day.
A Sudden Gust of Wind is one of Jeff Wall's early digital montages. In the picture Wall transforms the nineteenth-century Japanese scene to a contemporary cranberry farm. The picture shows the natural force and how people from the city are so impressed by it.This photograph was taken over 100 times in one year to be able to achieve what they wanted.
Both of these photographs were taken during the day. They both show water. These two photographs also send somewhat the same message to the reader. In one it explains to us how the mind imagines things and makes it seem as if we were in the oceans when in reality we are in a cementary, the second one also shows us how our minds play games with us. The city people are so caught up in what they are doing that they seem to not see the reality of nature.

Technology

Happiness 101

The idea that I had for this project was a student working on an assignment in class. I wanted it to show the viewer that it had to deal with school. However when I took the picture of the student and came to look at it carefully I noticed that I forgot to tell the model to smile. Since it is happiness she had to be happy, in the picture she is very serious. Then I went to school and wrote on the board happiness 101 followed by a big smiley face. I had one of my classmates model as if he was the teacher and drew the smiley face and wrote the phrase on the board. My exprience as a director of this picture was interesting since I never actually did a photograph of someone posing the way I wanted them to. It took many shots to come out with this one. I enjoyed taking a picture like this one, and I really liked it's outcome.

Brooklyn Bridge

This picture was taken on an afternoon that I was walking through the Brooklyn Bridge. Her eyes show an extreme desire for help. The colors are so bright and help the woman's face expression show more. The little hand that cover her mouth shows the viewer that she has a little one to look after. However the picture shows the reader she does not have the money to help her and her baby, Her eyes show sadness and desire to have someone to reach out to her and lend a helping hand. The picture is very clear. The light helps the expression come out more.

Manhattan Bridge

This picture was taken on an afternoon while I was walking on the Brooklyn Bridge. This photograph is good because at the time it represented many essentials of my life. The water bottle would represent a person feeling lonely, lost and in fear of what tomorrow might bring. The drop of water which was captured would be the tears that are hidden behind a smile. The background would be a representation of the past, a past that has become a blur to the person in pain.
